The Nimble Yogini

A creative approach to joy and movement

I’m Kate! A yoga teacher, dog mom, wife, knitter, casual runner, and very reluctant mountain biker. For many reasons, I’ve decided to let go of most social media platforms. I don’t like the content mill, and I don’t find it the best way to share fun and interesting things.

Instead, I’m going back to an old-fashioned blog. Here you’ll find some movement practices, dogs pics and stories, and knitting updates.

I love helping people feel good in their bodies through creative and practical movement. While I am a yoga teacher, my personal definition of yoga is pretty broad and I find that the poses found in a typical yoga class leave some gaps in a well-rounded movement practice.

My hope is to create a fun space that provides a little reprieve from…well, everything.

Movement

I spent all of my free time in a dance studio growing up. Mostly ballet, with a little tap, jazz, and modern thrown in. Ballet worked my brain and body in a way that no other activity has. I briefly considered becoming a professional dancer, but I do not have the drive or competitive spirit for such a brutal and subjective occupation.

As an adult, like many former dancers, I found yoga. A natural fit for my flexibility and experience with sequenced movement. Eventually I got my yoga and prenatal certifications, and after several years of teaching, found my niche focusing on gentle, practical movement and breath that supports and strengthens the body for normal life activities.

I am not a drill instructor and you probably won’t get super sweaty in my classes. But you will learn to listen and engage with your body in a way that supports other movement goals.

The Doggos

I grew up with cats my entire life. I told my husband the only way I would be OK with getting a dog was if we were living in a house with a yard, and I was working only part-time. Low and behold, that’s exactly what happened when we moved from Chicago to Charlotte, where we adopted Athena. She taught us so much, and we unfortunately lost her in 2023.

During our time in Charlotte an irresponsible neighbor adopted a Malinois puppy and did not get her fixed. She was Athena’s BFF and eventually gave birth to the cutest litter of pups. Our dog trainer suggested a puppy would be good for Athena, and that’s how we ended up with Big Leo. A really goofy guy who is terrified of skateboards and thunder, but loves snacks and naps.

Summer of 2024, after a really tough few years and on the mend from losing Athena, we went to the grocery store and saw Mountain Pet Rescue outside a local pet shop. We knew as soon as we saw their tent we would be going home with a puppy. That puppy is Francis. She is almost completely deaf, and brings so much joy and chaos to our lives. I hope you enjoy her shenanigans as much as we do.

Knitting

My family is full of crafters and creators, but I’ve never felt particularly confident when it comes to drawing, painting, etc.

When I was a tween my mom tried to teach me to knit, and it drove me absolutely crazy. I could NOT handle two needles, so I played around witch crochet.

Then, a few years ago, with support from Youtube and a slightly more stable emotional state, I picked it up again and became completely obsessed. Its the perfect recovery activity: meditative, tactile, creative, relaxing. I can’t get enough of it.

I’ve been knitting mostly tops and shawls, and have zero interest in socks

Occasionally I dabble in other crafts, and I have a large collection of notebooks and office supplies, that I will definitely use up before I die.
